Broadcasters, program suppliers and voice artists who own the popular Zephyr Xstream ISDN Transceiver now have even more flexibility at their command, thanks to new software available from Telos Systems.

Zephyr Xstream Version 2.5 software contains many enhancements and additions which enable users to connect with Zephyr Xport, the portable Telos codec that can use both analog (POTS) and digital (ISDN) telephone lines.

Enhanced featuresinclude:

  • Coding Technologies’ aacPlus™ coding for analog (POTS) connections to Zephyr Xport
  • Custom modem support for Zephyr Xport calls over ISDN connections
  • One-Touch dial option for calling Zephyr Xport connected to POTS lines
  • The latest MPEG AAC coding updates from Fraunhofer FhG
  • Enhanced V.35 flexibility with new speed selection options
  • Upgraded remote-control capabilities

Telos Zephyr is the world’s most popular family of digital network transceivers. Along with industrystandard MPEG Layer 3 and Layer 2 coding, Zephyr Xstream includes MPEG AAC for indistinguishable source-from-input at only 128 kbps, and AAC-LD coding for high quality, low delay bi-directional remotes. Other features include MP3 streaming and remote control via Ethernet; portable versions include a built-in four channel stereo mixer, Phantom power and audio processing presets by Omnia.

Zephyr Xstream’s ability to connect to the new Zephyr Xport POTS+ISDN codec reduces the overall cost of remote systems, since a single studio-side transceiver can take the place of dedicated ISDN and POTS codecs. Zephyr Xport codecs utilize a unique DSP-based modem architecture that enables use of an ordinary analog (POTS) telephone line for transmission of high-quality mono audio to an ISDN-connected Zephyr Xstream; an optionalISDN plug-in card frees Xport users to take advantage any telephone connection available in the field.

In addition to reducing cost, decreasing the hardware needed for both POTS and ISDN remotes also conserves router and console resources and greatly simplifies remote operations; see www.zephyr.com for details.
