Public Media Engineering integrates Axia

Public Media Engineering based in Chicago, Illinois, is the latest broadcast systems integrator to become an Axia Audio Integration Partner. PME's principal is Peter Femal, well-known to broadcasters as Director of Transmission Maintenance and Reliability for Chicago Public Media and their flagship station, WBEZ.

"It's a real win to have Peter and his organization providing Axia integration services," says Axia marketing manager Clark Novak. "As a technologist and IP evangelist, Peter knows the ins and outs of both facilities design and implementation of Axia networks. In fact, he's already provided integration on several major Axia products — we're just making it official!"

"The day is coming quickly when all new studios will be networked, top to bottom," remarks Femal, "That's why we're so enthusiastic about having Axia in our portfolio. We pride ourselves on having quality-minded, highly skilled engineers, who really understand IT. We currently have members in Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit, Colorado, Wisconsin and Alabama, and we are actively expanding our service area. We are ready for anything!"

Axia allows broadcasters to quickly and easily build audio networks using switched Ethernet to connect a few rooms, or an entire facility. Axia networks have a total system capacity of more than 10,000 audio streams, and can carry hundreds of digital stereo channels (plus machine logic and PAD) over a single CAT-6 cable, eliminating much of the cost normally associated with wiring labor and infrastructure. Axia radio consoles are a hit, with installations in over 4,000 studios worldwide, and over 40 partner companies make broadcast equipment that connects directly via Ethernet to Axia networks. Axia also supports the high-performance RAVENNA IP-Audio standard.
